Install HSPICE on Windows 7

############# HSPICE vK 2015.06-3 installation ##################

Please note, Windows 10 is not supported, don’t know why, the program ‘hspice.exe stopped working’.

1. Installation

You will need to download ‘hspice_vK-2015.06-3_win’ and ‘hspice_vK-2015.06-3_win.iss’, these are hspice installation files. Double click and install ‘hspice_vK-2015.06-3_win’, very easy.

And you will need SCL_V11.7 for license management, install it as well, very easy.

2. Generate license file

Download ‘SynopsysKeygen’ from eetop.cn.

First, you have to know your machine ID, to find out that ID, open a Windows terminal by typing ‘cmd’ in search. Go to ‘C:\synopsys\SCL\11.7\win32\bin\’ using File Explorer, drag ‘lmhostid.exe’ into terminal and press ‘Enter’. It will say your host ID of this machin is “…..”, just write down the first string if you have more than one, for example mine is ‘a886dda0bbbb’ (use your own machine ID, not mine!!!).

Then go to ‘EFA LicGen 0.4b’ folder which in your ‘SynopsysKeygen’ package, run ‘LicGen.exe’. Click ‘Open’ and choose ‘Synopsys.lpd’, under ‘Select Host ID’ section, choose ‘Custom’ and type in your machine ID. Check ‘Use Daemon’, under ‘Select Daemon ID’ section, choose ‘Custom’ and type in your machine ID. After all done, click ‘Generate’ on top, and ‘Save’, using default name ‘Synopsys.dat’ or whatever you like. Be careful, ‘Synopsys.dat’ will be saved in ‘packs’ folder under ‘EFA LicGen 0.4b’.

Copy this ‘Synopsys.dat’ to ‘Synopsys SSS Feature Keygen’ folder which in your ‘SynopsysKeygen’ package, keep this File Explorer window, open a terminal, drag the file ‘sssverify.exe’ into the terminal, then press ‘Spacebar’ in terminal once, and drag ‘synopsys.dat’ into terminal, press ‘Enter’. The program will start to calculate secret data, which I got ‘096d 0000 11de 0000 c000’ finally, write down this secret data.

Run ‘KeyGen.exe’ in ‘Synopsys SSS Feature Keygen’ folder, put your secret data in, put your HOSTID in which is your machine ID (if you have more than one ID, just use one and delete the double quotation marks). Click ‘Generate’, and you will have a new ‘license.dat’ file in the same folder.

Open ‘license.dat’ in Notepad, copy from ‘FEATURE SSS snpslmd…’ to the end of the file. Open ‘synopsys.dat’ in Notepad, at the very end of the 2nd line press ‘Enter’ to make a new line, paste what you’ve just copied here. Save this file, and it’s your final HSPICE license file. (If you installed CST, you will have to avoid using 27000 port, because it’s occupied, try replacing 27000 with 27002 in your HSPICE license file)

Copy ‘synopsys.dat’ to ‘C:\synopsys\Hspice_K-2015.06-3\’.

3. Configure the license server.

First you have to add a new environment variable, in Windows 10, right click the Windows icon, click ‘System’, ‘Advanced system settings’, ‘Environment Variables…’. Create a New variable named ‘LM_LICENSE_FILE’ and apply the value of ‘C:\synopsys\Hspice_K-2015.06-3\synopsys.dat’ which is the path of your license file.

Run ‘lmtools’ from ‘Start’ -> ‘SCL’. Click ‘Config Services’ tab, type in a new Service Name for example ‘HSPICE Service’, ‘Browse’ for ‘lmgrd.exe’ which should be ‘C:\synopsys\SCL\11.7\win32\bin\lmgrd.exe’ by default, ‘Browse’ for license file which should be ‘C:\synopsys\Hspice_K-2015.06-3\synopsys.dat’ by default. Click ‘Save Service’ when you finish this.

Reboot your PC and run ‘lmtools’ again, click ‘Start/Stop/Reread’ tab, ‘Start Server’ your HSPICE license server.

Now it’s time to enjoy HSPICE.
